Working as a Network Specialist
Together with a Project Manager, you participate in customer meetings with a focus on network requirements and configurations.
You translate these requirements into network schematics and designs, and research network solutions for both on-board and off-board train communication networks.
You design and implement network solutions holding into account security aspects, configurability, robustness, flexibility, configuration as code, etc.
You collaborate with the software developers when integrating applications with network solutions.
You are responsible for the configuration and testing in both staging and production environment.
You monitor network performance to verify that capacity meets project and product requirements.
Professional skills we’re looking for:
Solid understanding of Linux networking (routing, network services, firewalls, bridging, discovery mechanisms,…);
Experience with switching protocols (VLAN, VTP, VRRP,…) and excellent knowledge of the TCP/IP protocol stack (DNS, DHCP, NTP, STUN/TURN,…);
Depending on upcoming projects the following aspects can come up, so experience with, knowledge of or the willingness to learn (about) these topics is very interesting:
wireless networking technologies (Wi-Fi, LTE), mechanisms (automatic handovers, signal quality monitoring, QoS, aggregation,…) and network monitor standards and tools (SNMP, wireshark, Splunk,…);
setting up and managing tunneling mechanisms (VPN, IPsec, SSL, GRE, OpenVPN, Wireguard,…);
