Train Operating Companies and Rail Infrastructure Companies are more and more interested in knowing the exact health of their infrastructure. Therefore, to detect the health of the pantograph and overhead wire expensive measurement trains are used. To cover all of the tracks, these trains drive 24/7 and hinder the normal train schedule.
The goal of this thesis is to research the feasibility of different measurement techniques (e.g. LIDAR) within the harsh train environment. In the thesis, the student will need to analyse the feasibility of new systems for pantograph condition monitoring
The thesis should include the following phases
Requirement definition based on Televic knowledge
Market study of existing solutions and their shortcomings
Development of a novel measurement approach without the previously identified shortcomings
Proof of Concept creation
The student will have the opportunity to go through the complete development phase of a product design project with state of the art sensors.
