Smart Mobility keeps Medellin moving

Medellin focuses on smart mobility with different modes of transportation.
In recent years the Colombian city of Medellín has become Latin America's leading smart city. The city combines well thought out city planning with adequate mobility and optimal use of the latest technologies.
Smart mobility
Since 2004 the Medellín city government has been investing in social urbanization, primarily targeting the poorest neighbourhoods. This had a massive impact on the transportation network, as they focused on smart mobility with different modes of transportation. They constructed a "Corredor Verde" ("green corridor") to connect far-flung neighbourhoods to the downtown area using green-electric mass transit, like the Metrocable and the tramway.
Tram on tyres
One of the eye catchers is the Ayacucho line, the first tramway on tyres in Latin America. This unique system combines the ease of a guided system with the advantages of a vehicle on tyres, so that it meshes with existing street systems and overcomes steep grades.
Trafic 2019
The urban transformation of Medellín also caught the attention of IFEMA, the trade fair institution of Madrid. After fifteen editions held in Madrid, IFEMA organized the first TRAFIC fair in Latin America (13-15 June 2019) in collaboration with Plaza Mayor Medellín. This commercial exhibition is a reference point for the mobility industry in Spain and brings together companies that focus on Smart Mobility, Sustainability & Innovation.
