Tr@ins (2008)
Satellite communication, Trackside communication, Heterogeneous access

Internet on the train
The objective of the TR@INS project was to get internet on the train. It was already possible to get mobile access, but there were some major problems:
- no broadband internet
- interrupted access
- poor quality of service
- no on-board mobility support
Reliable broadband internet onboard
Nowadays, it is impossible to imagine modern on-board technologies without reliable internet. The TR@INS technology is used in several solutions such as passenger information, fleet management, crew communication and security.
Our project partners
IBCN, Nokia Siemens Networks, Newtec, PATS and several research groups of the universities of Antwerp and Ghent.
ICON projects
ICON research projects are agile and demand-driven, combining academia and industry partners. ICON projects typically have a duration of two years, yet quickly adapt to the rapid-evolving digital landscape.
