Seat Reservation on the LNER Azuma trains
In May 2019 London North Eastern Railway (LNER) introduced the first of its new Azuma trains on the East Coast Route. The trains carry the brand name Azuma, the Japanese word for "East".
From London to Edinburgh in four hours
The Azuma uses Japanese bullet train technology for faster acceleration. Thanks to this technology and to the new timetable, passengers will travel between London and Edinburgh in four hours, and between London and Leeds in two hours.
The new trains mark the biggest milestone on the route in 30 years and will completely transform the travel experience on the route, says David Horne, LNER Managing Director: "I look forward to giving our customers an excellent experience every time they travel with us".
Passenger information
The Azuma is manufactured in Britain by Hitachi Rail and equipped with the Televic GSP system for passenger information. This includes hardware, such as LED screens, as well as software for content management and data transfers.
Seat reservation
An important eye catcher is the seat reservation system. The innovative traffic light displays clearly show whether seats are reserved or not. LNER can easily add journey information (e.g. "Liverpool to Stansted") or individual information (e.g. "Welcome Mr. Smith) on the TFT LCD screens.
By the end of 2019 65 trains will be rolled out across the East Coast line.
